Well the Staffordshire Masters has been and gone, and I have to say it was a bit of a mixed bag really. I was looking forward to it but ended up coming away a touch disappointed. And tonight, at tri-club, Gary & Diane (coaches) was very motivational about the whole thing. Also the three speedies were as well, so may be I didn't quite do so badly as I'd thought.
I ended up with two second places, two forths and a fifth, now it's not the position that counts it's the times and *how* you swim. In fact if I swam my very best (and some!) I'd still have finished in the same positions. What disappointed me was my actual swimming, there's probably a multitude of reasons why (I'm full of excuses) but I don't think I swam any of them particularly well, or at least not as well as I know I could. I think the two main reasons were a lack of specific training in the month leading up to this event, and my inability to cope with open turns where there's no gutter to hang on to!
Anyhow that's all been and gone, so for the next one I need to practice/train better. So my times:
| Event No | Event | Time | Position |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 50 Fly | 31.47 | 4th |
| 11 | 100 Free | 65.73 | 2nd |
| 13 | 4 x 25 IM | 75.16 | 4th |
| 19 | 50 Free | 29.40 | 5th |
| 27 | 100 Fly | 73.69 | 2nd |
Probably the best bits about the day were two sets of people I ended up talking to. One was a father and son duo from Wales, the other a mum, dad and daughter trio. I thought it was brilliant that there was this multi-generational aspect to the event. Both families compete a lot (Google told me) and the fact they do it together is just ace. I hope I can do the same with one, or other, or both of my two...
